Insight into History - now and then. w.2-9 VT17

The power change takes place in the USA this January. We will focus on First Lady Michelle Obama. The Great Depression affected the economies and political systems of the USA, Europe and other industrialized countries last centure. People and their lifestyles.

Dear students,

These four weeks. we will investigate 2 moments in modern history.

We will start with learning about Michelle Obama as First Lady who has become very popular not only in the USA but long beyond the American continent. We will watch two video clips and work on them.

The tasks you will have to do are the following:

• discuss the video;
• learn new words;
• write a short text based on the video which is your point of view.

The grammar moment:

• the use of hythen in adjectives (ex. a ten-year-old boy)

The second piece of history we are going to look into is the period of the Great Depression in the USA. You will work both on a text and a video about the Great Depression. The tasks you will have to do are the following:

• vocabulary work orally and in writing;
• answer questions in writing;
• write two texts based on the information you have got from the video and the text.

 The grammar moment: 

• the use of Present and Past Tenses

The third moment is the current situation in the EU in connection with Brexit. Listening and speaking will be the main areas we will practice English here with focus on vocabulary.

Dessa fyra veckor ska vi fokusera på två bitar i den moderna historien. 

Vi ska börja med att lära oss mer om Michele Obama genom att vi ska titta på två video. 

 Ni ska göra följande:

• diskutera videon;
• lära nya ord samt i vilket kontext de användas;
• skriva en text baserad på infon från videon samt som reflektera er åsikt.

Den andra delen av historien rör Great Depression perioden mellan 1929-1939. Ni ska arbeta med en text och en video som handlar om Great Depression. Uppgifter:

• att arbeta med vokabulär både muntligt och skriftligt;
• svara på frågorna skriftligt;
• skriva två texter som baseras på infon från videon och texten.

Vi ska också arbeta med grammatik:

• hur man använda hyfen; 
• olika former av nu -och då tid.

Den tredje delen ska handla om Brexit: vi ska fokusera på att lyssna och diskutera frågor kring detta.

Eleven ska förstå och tolka innehållet i talad engelska och i olika slags texter
Formulera sig i skrift
Reflektera över livsvillkor, samhällsfrågor och kulturella företeelser i olika sammanhang och delar av världen där engelska används

Konkretisering av kunskapskraven

Kunna förstå talad engelska t ex i film om USA och hörförståelseövningar
Kunna läsa och förstå texter om USA
Kunna skriva på engelska och göra jämförelser mellan olika perioder i den moderna historien
