The Declaration of Independence, week 10-14

During these weeks, you will read up on one of the signers of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, and give a presentation on him.

The Declaration of Independence is one of the most important documents in the history of the U.S. history. During these weeks, you will learn what the Declaration of Independence is, as well as something about the more famous people who signed it.

Write a text based on these questions (about one page long): 1. What is the Declaration of Independence? 2. Who were the people who signed it (names are not necessary; what kind of people were they)? 3. What is the document's background? 4. What was its purpose? 5. Does it still exist? If so, can you see it somewhere? 6. The 4th of July, why is that so important?

(Some) Persons of Interest

You will work in pairs to find information about some of the people behind the Declaration of Independence. This information is to be put together into a presentation, which you will hold for the rest of the class. You MUST use at least THREE sources, which you will cite at the end of your presentation. These may be written, in film format or in audio format.
