The Snowman (abridged version)

Using the abriged text The Snowman by Raymond Briggs students will use the pictures and their narrative skills to retell the story of The Snowman. We will use this text to inspire discussions about the effects of temperature on water and to inspire craft dactivities. The focus will be mostly on speaking and listening with reading and writing strategy support presented through an Incidental Learning teaching method.

Stage 1: The teacher will read the story with the students.

Stage 2: The students will discuss their experiences of building snowmen

Stage 3: The students will retell the story of The Snowman using the pictures as support.

Stage 4: The teacher will lead the children in a discussion about the effects of temperature on water.

Stage 5: Children will use the story of The Snowman to inspire their own picture story.

Stage 6: The teacher will provide Craft materials and written and spoken instructions for making snowman Crafts.
