Travel around the English speaking world

You are going to "travel" to two English speaking countries in two different continents.

Your goals

You will

-  Get to know a quite a few things about your two English speaking countries

-  Be able to compare your countries or your earlier knowledge and experience of the countries, as well as giving your personal reflections about the countries

-  Be well prepared and give a speech to a famous person or someone you have met "during your journey" in which you share information about your country with the help of photos in Power point, using your best language

-  Chat and interact on a computer, while trying to convince a friend to make a journey to your two countries

-  Evaluate this work

Way of working

1. Seeking and choosing information (during no more than four lessons) about two countries from two different contintents:

- looking for pictures/photos to illustrate your speech and make a Power point (about 10 slides – but with more than 1 photo on every slide). Only Pictures, no text!

-  from texts +  from the Internet about your two countries, for example: capital, sights, tourist information, famous places, famous people, nature, culture, history, films, food, environment, animals, climate, weather, sports, geography, population, inhabitants, fashion, religion, school, criminality, shopping, music, local accent, ways of living. IF you have a special interest – start with that!

2. Through a speech, which is dedicated to a famous person or someone you have met from one of the countries, you will tell the audience about a journey you've made through two English speaking countries in the World - from two different continents - in a relaxed, personal way = Be yourself!  Make the presentation fun and interesting to watch. You may use props and clothes, to show the countries specialities and to make the presentation more interesting. Use your fantasy for this part!

a)  During your stay something unexpected happened (e.g. a film festival, weather catastrophe, car crash or something else). Describe and explain, both what and how you reacted to it.

b)  You will compare your two countries with each other (e.g. culture, climate, food, school, medical service, laws, etc) in the speech.

c) You also have to give personal reflections - positive and negative things about your countries in the speech.

3. You are also going to chat with a class mate on computers about which countries the two of you are going to visit on a vacation. You yourself want to travel to the two countries you have been working with and your classmate wants to travel to the two countries he or she has learned things about. Discuss, interact and show your knowledge (facts, etc) about your countries! Also give your personal reflections about the countries and compare your two countries – similarities and differences. You will only use your computer – NO TEXT, NO NOTES!

 

 

Examination

1) Speaking presentation

The speech should be about 4 - 5 min and is due week 5 or 6

2) Written interaction

Chatting on computers will be due week 6 or 7 - during one lesson
