BÅ ENG 8 VT 2018 Giving a Presentation

Have you always wanted your 15 minutes of fame? Or to tell everyone about your top ten favourites? Maybe you just feel like practicing your presentation skills? No matter what - these next few weeks will give you the opportunity to practise just that!

These next four weeks we will work on speaking English. We will both practise speaking English and have an assignment where you will be evaluated. You will have two different options to choose from:

Presenting the news

Our aim is that you will be able to retell a piece of news in English

Context

News in English about Sweden or the rest of the World.

How to do it

• Work in pairs or small groups. Find articles in English on Sweden on http://www.thelocal.se/. Other places to search is CBS News and  BBC News. Remember to be critical of your sources.
• Read the article individually. Discuss in pairs what the article is about and ask each other or the teacher if you do not understand.
• When you understand most of the article make a mind-map and write down keywords on the article.
• Summarize the article in English for the rest of the class. Each article will in other words be presented by a pair of two students. Afterwards the other students can ask questions on the article.
• If you want to spice it up a bit - make it as a real news cast and present that either live or recorded using iMovie.

You present it either live to the class or by showing a film recorded on the iPad.

Our aim is for you to give a speech about a topic you feel comfortable with

How to do it

• Work individually. Write a list about the things you want to talk about. Don't forget to motivate and explain why you have chosen what you have chosen.
• Feel free to use any visual aid to support your presentation.
• Team up with someone to practice your speech on. Give peer evaluation to each other.
