We have read about the book/film "Forrest Gump" in our textbook, Magic 8. While Forrest Gump is a fictional character, many of the events in the book/film are based on real people and events which play an important role in American history. Your assignment is, in pairs, to research two topics from the list below and later present your findings orally to your classmates (with a visual presentation). There are 30 different topics, which will be assigned at random.
Each student (or pair) will explain/present two historic events, places, or people from the movie.
For some events there may not be a specific person or place connected to it. You will get the
different events by drawing lots. I want you to prepare a visual presentation (PowerPoint, Prezi, or Keynote) that you will use when you present your topics orally to the class.
Your classmates will be getting the opportunity to ask questions on your presentation, as will I when you are done so make sure that you are prepared to answer them afterwards. There will also be a quiz about all the topics after we have seen all the presentations.
Here are some questions to think about when you prepare your presentation:
When and where did it happen (in the movie)? What were the circumstances?
Who was involved? Describe their position in society.
What was the issue?
What were the consequences?
Why do you think this has this become a lasting part of American history and culture?
