Learning Objectives:

The students shall be able to:

• say that fossils are evidence that dinosaurs, and other plant and animal life, existed on earth many years ago, even though we cannot see them today

• list at least three conditions that will cause a species to become extinct

• describe dinosaurs as giant lizards and classify them as either plant eaters or meat eaters

• say that dinosaurs hatched from eggs and had a life cycle 

• draw, in sequence, the life cycle of a dinosaur and of a reptile 

• say that dinosaurs' bones and other objects (fossils) are found buried in the earth

• list at least three characteristics of a reptile

• list dinosaur weapons and describe how dinosaurs defended themselves

• describe how nature changes in at least two ways and at least two ways in which nature remains the same.

Lesson:

The students will create dioramas of the Prehistoric Time using various art materials.

The students will use the Scott Foresman Grade 2 Science book "The Past".

The students will create a Back to the Past book.

Through the use of Brainpop, films and BBC videos learn about fossils and dinosaurs

• With the help of a timeline, support words, pictures and your book of evolution "Prehistoric Times" tell about the developing of life from the "glowing globe to a living globe."
• You can use and explain subject related Words such as: timeline, organisms, changes, oxygen,fossils, eras, habitats
• You know what support Words are and you can take out support words from a descriptive text, film or talk, to then use those support words to write your own descriptive text.
• You can creative pictures with different material that belong to your prehistoric book and/or timeline.
