The World is a Big Place!

Which is the largest continent? In this geography unit you’ll learn about Earth’s continents: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. You will find out some important details about each continent and locate them on a map. You’ll also explore our planet’s five oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern, and Arctic Oceans. You will see a few short films/songs on the continents from Brainpop and Education.com and discuss the contents. 

You will  develop a better understanding of geography and learn about the world around you though class discussions.

You will learn a few key details about each continent, including their location on a map.

You will explore our planet’s five oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern, and Arctic Oceans.

We will be able to look at maps together and  find our own location and other places of interest around the world.

In the lessons you shall:

• Read, label and  understand simple text and maps of the 7 continents and oceans and equator
• Write in your own words  with the help of support words about the subject in your journal
• Create a "Me on the Map " flip book 
• Present in small groups about your "Me on the Map" flipbook
• Work hands-on with creating,  constructing and measuring
• Be able to understand vocabulary words related to the topic

Assessment

The student will be able to locate geographical features on a map or globe.
