The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

In this unit, we'll be working with the book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a true story about an innovator from Malawi.

In this unit, we'll be reading, discussing and writing about the novel The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. The book is based on a true story about an innovator in one the poorest countries in the world - Malawi, where English is an official language and often used as a language to communicate between different ethnic groups within the country. We'll learn about the geography of southern Africa and the history of Malawi as well as its geographical features. We'll read and listen to the novel and discuss what's not explicitly stated but must be inferred (reading between the lines). We'll practice translating between English and Swedish. We'll reflect on similarities and differences between the protagonist's life and our own lives in Sweden. We'll also write about the novel and practice using proper grammar and spelling. If we have time, we'll be able to see the movie interpretation of the story and compare it to the novel as well as reflect on screenwriting as a writing process.

– Seder, bruk och traditioner i områden där modersmålet talas i jämförelse med svenska seder, bruk och traditioner.

– Skolgång i områden där modersmålet talas i jämförelse med skolgång i Sverige.
