This is a project about The British Isles, The United Kingdom, Great Britain and the countries within; England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. You will learn about the nature, climate, traditions, food and many other things that are typical for the British Isles.

GOALS

 You are going to learn:

• about the different countries within the British Isles; England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland
• the differences between the British Isles (BI), the United Kingdom (UK) and Great Britain (GB)
• how to compare similarities and differences in some of the countries as well as with Sweden

WAY OF WORKING

In class we are going to:

• watch and discuss a couple of short films on YouTube
• work with texts about the different countries
• search for facts on the Internet
• practise taking notes
• discuss how to make a good comparison

One country - One aspect 

• You are going to find out more about one aspect (e.g. food, music, traditions, tourist sights, history, school, capital) in one of the countries within the British Isles.
• The information you find is going to be illustrated (pictures and text) in a Power Point with 2 slides.
• You will share the Power Point with your teacher, who will put all slides into one Power Point. You will find the Power Point as an "Uppgift" when the presentions are done.
• The Power Point with your information will be used as a base for learning and discussion in class.

EXAMINATION

1. One country - one aspect - w.6

• Power Point presentation, 2 slides with facts about one of the countries within the British Isles and only one aspect (e.g. school, traditions, food, music).

2.Travel blog - w.7

• You are going to write a travel diary/blog from your journey in at least two of the countries in the British Isles. Instructions you will find down below in Uppgift/Travel journal/blog.

3. Board game - w. 8

• In class you will play a game based on questions about the British Isles, questions that everyone in the classes will make.
• The game will be played in smaller grops and you will have the chance to show your knowledge about the British Isles :)

Your task is to prepare a presentation about one aspect in one country. You will have 2 lessons to prepare and make your PowerPoint slides.

 

• You are going to find out more about one aspect (e.g. food, music, traditions, tourist sights, activities, history, school system, capital, nature, animals) in one of the countries within the British Isles.
• The information you find is going to be illustrated (pictures and text – ONLY KEYWORDS) in a Power Point with 2 slides.
• You will share the Power Point with your teacher ([e-mail]).
• Find information about these things:
• - Give examples of your aspect

• Presentation about a country – all slides about a country will be put into one presentation, in which each student will talk about his/her slides.  

Travel blog

A comarative travel blog

Imagine a journey where you visit two of the countries within the British Isles, for example, England and Wales, and describe where you have been, what you have done, eaten etc. Choose two aspects and include in your description, e.g. school, history, nature, culture, traditions, food, sports, music, dance.

Also compare the two countries with each other as well as with Sweden. You have to discuss both similarities and differences.

In your Travel blog you must include these things:

·        The date of the day – as headings

·        Descriptions of the activities of the day

·        Impressions

·        Thoughts

·        Feelings

·        Thoughts about tomorrow

·        Comparisons between the two countries in the British Isles, as well as with Sweden

·        Write in a personal way with your own words

·        Prepare 2 questions for the boardgame – both questions and answers

How to write

·        Open a Word document and share it with your teacher.

·        The heading in bold face and font size 16

·        The subheadings in bold face and font size 14.

·       The text in font size 12 and type face Times New Roman,

Why write a blog when traveling?

Travel blogs (or journals/diary) are texts in which you can write about trips you have taken, what you learned during and the experiences you had. It is a collection of adventures, stories, memories and discovery. It doesn’t matter where you're going or who you’re traveling with, an online travel blog can come anywhere. 

When traveling somewhere new, you will learn a lot about that place’s culture, customs and people. By having a place to write down your observations, you will absorb more of your surroundings.
