English year 8, Reading Literature: The Hate U Give

Throughout this project you will develop your reading skills and your communications skills by working with the novel The Hate U Give. You will work with the content of the novel and make connections to your own experiences.. You will furthermore develop your understanding of living conditions in the US and make comparisons to your own life. Skills that you will practice during this project is: - Reading skills by reading the novel The Hate U Give - Speaking skills by discussing the novel in class - Writing skills by writing about the novel - Reflection skills by discussing living conditions and social structures.

 

For the next 10 weeks you will read Angie Thomas’ bestselling novel The hate U give. It’s a powerful and brave novel about what prejudice looks like in the 21st century. In this novel, you get to know sixteen-year-old Starr who lives in two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised and her posh high school in the suburbs.

You will be examined throughout the project by:

- Writing assignments
