Most of us enjoy watching films and reading stories about unexpected and scary things. Think about thrillers, horror stories, crime stories for example. For some reason people are hard-wired to enjoy getting excited and even scared when taking part of these kind of stories. One particular kind of scary story is the urban legend. An urban legend doesn´t have a writer. It´s a story that has been spread around by word of mouth; people tell each other these stories when they get together: “Hey, did you hear about the young woman who picked up a nice old lady. The lady turned out to be a crazy killer, and a man!”
Purpose
· To learn about what is typical of an urban legend, the characteristics
· To practise and develop reading- and listening comprehension by reading and listening to urban legend stories
· To discuss and talk about some of these stories; retelling, discussing and commenting on their content
· To write a story of your own, with the characteristics of an urban legend
Content
Reading and/or listening to three urban legends:
“The Death Car” https://web2.uvcs.uvic.ca/courses/elc/studyzone/410/reading/
“The Choking Dog” https://web2.uvcs.uvic.ca/courses/elc/studyzone/410/reading/

It´s important that you take active part in your tasks during lesson-time and in talks and discussions. That way you develop your understanding and skills, and you show them, which is like an examination.
Examination:
• Verbally – we are going to talk about every story. And have discussions as well.
• Test – Where you retell and discuss and comment on content and details in the stories.
