Recording your own podcast
Recording your own podcast
Task
You are going to create your own radio pod in English with you as hosts of the show. The theme of this podcast is Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome. You can choose to talk about whatever you want about the theme.
Here are some things you need to think about before you start working with the radio pod.
The conversations must all be in English.
You need to write a script with all the dialogues before you start recording the radio pod.
The pod needs to be at least 5 minutes and can maximum be 10 minutes long.
Everyone in the group needs to be an active part of the radio pod.
Roles
It is normal that a radio pod has different people with different roles. You need to decide who is going to do what in your radio pod.
Here are some roles that you could use in your pod. There might be more roles that fit your radio pod better.
Host: This is the person who is in charge (the boss) of the show and is always a part of the show. He/she often talks to the listeners and introduces the guests to the show. The host asks questions to the guests about the theme of the show.
Guest: The guest is invited to talk on the show. The guest can be an expert, who knows a lot about the theme of the show. The guest can also be someone who has a story to tell or want to share ideas and information about the show’s theme.
Reporter: The reporter is someone who asks questions to people about the theme of the show. The reporter is normally in a different place than the host, for example in the city, a shopping centre, a museum, at an event or anywhere where they interview other people.
Time
The time you have to finish and hand in your recorded radio pod and written script is until Friday February 29th.
What are we practicing?
Creating a radio pod is a great way to practice speaking and pronouncing English. You also practice your writing, spelling and grammar when you write your scripts for the show. You also practice understanding the people around you when you listen to them and what they say in English. We also practice to find the right information on the internet.
How to get started
Create a group of 2-4 people. More people = Longer radio pod.
Decide the theme of the show. What are you going to talk about?
Create a mind map of the ideas for the radio pod. Hand it in to your teacher during the first lesson.
Find information about your theme/themes and start writing a script.
Decide who is playing what role in the show.
Review the script and make changes if you need to.
Record the radio pod.
Add music, sound effects and jingles to your show (if you like, you can add commercials but only if you produce them yourselves.)
