A Letter From Australia

Palmbladsskolan, Uppsala · Senast uppdaterad: 19 maj 2021

Pretend you are in The Land Down Under and write me a letter!

A letter from Australia!

Pretend that you are in Australia, the land down under! Now you want to send your old English teacher a letter and tell her about your amazing journey.

Since your teacher is quite old now and has forgotten a lot of things, you need to tell her some basic facts about the country.

In the letter you should also write about what places and cities you have visited and what you have done during the trip.

So you include real facts about Australia when you write about what you have done and seen. For example:

Yesterday, my friend and I, went to see Ayers Rock. It was amazing!! It is a huge sandstone rock in the middle of the country, close to the city of Alice Spings. It is also called Uluru. It was a great experience, I really enjoyed it!

I live with my family in a nice hotel in Sidney! Sidney is great! I love the city, even though it is so big. There are more than 5 million people here, so it is a lot bigger than Uppsala! But I like it!

In this letter you should also make some comparisons between Australia and Sweden (Sidney vs. Uppsala). For example:

The only thing I don’t like here is the weather! It’s a little too hot for me. It’s December so I’m used to snow and winter, but down here it is summer! Strange isn’t it? When it is summer here, it is winter in Sweden. So it’s crazy, some days the temperature is over 40 degrees! I prefer Swedish summers!

How to begin an informal letter: Hi, Dear, Hello…

How to end the letter: Hugs, Best, Cheers

On the back is a mindmap to use when you plan your writing. Make sure you include all the different parts in your text.

You may bring the mindmap to class when it is time to write. You will write the letter in exam.net on Friday the 13th of March.
