Visitor's Guide - USA

Imagine principal Ulf has given the students of 8E money for an educational (yet exciting!) trip to USA! Your task will be to create a visitor’s guide to a city in North America. Try to get as many classmates as possible to visit "your" destination! During this task you will get a chance to learn about the geography and culture of USA.

Goal

To research, create a guide and a poster and give an oral presentation about a destination in the United States of America. You pick your destination and decide what exciting activities and places visitors should know about.

Schedule

Lesson 1: Introduction, sample guide, choose and research your destination

Lessons 2, 3 and 4: Find information, write your guide

Lessons 5 and 6: Create poster and rehearse the presentation 

Lesson 7: Present in small groups, take notes

Lesson 8: Read a visitor's guide and write a letter back home

Lesson 9: Listening and reading comprehension

Instructions

 

Research: First you need to decide which place to write about. Pick a city you wish to visit. Perhaps you know a place you would like to visit because you’ve heard about it or seen it in a movie, etc. Find out where that place is and learn more about it. Find pictures and information about the city and save that in a document in Classroom. Go to different sites, watch videos, and discuss with classmates. Remember to write down your sources.

 

Writing: Make a travel guide using the information and pictures that you found in your research. Each guide should contain 2-3 pages.

Poster: Make a poster with the city name and pictures that represent your text

Presentation: Your oral presentation should be about 3-5 minutes long. Decide what you want to say during your presentation and rehearse. Make sure you are well prepared so that you can speak freely using only your poster and not your text.

During presentations: Take notes on your classmates' presentations.

 

Reading and writing: Read a classmates' visitor's guide. Imagine you are on holiday and you are writing a letter back home to a friend or family member.
