Demo Speech

A demonstrative speech informs, but also teaches the audience something as it includes a demonstration of how to do the thing you are talking about. Choose a topic to speak about that will be useful, educational and entertaining for both you and your audience. Use your creativity!

Time: 4-5 minutes

Material: The speech will be delivered in class. You can bring props to class if feasible, or film or photograph yourself performing the task (no audio).

Knowledge Requirement: To show a level higher than E, you should not use any notes or flashcards.

 

Structure your speech:

Introduction

Get your audience's attention. Introduce your topic; what it is you will be doing, why it is important and any necessary background information you think the audience needs. Try to get your audience interested in what you have to say. A personal story or a quote can help you here.

Body

Perform the demonstration starting with a brief overview leading into more specifics where you describe and show step by step. There needs to be a logical order of explaining so that the audience can follow. A demonstrative speech works wonderfully with props. A display, slide-show, a magic trick, or whatever works in your situation, is very attention-grabbing. Maybe a finished product?
Be creative!

Conclusion

Review what you have talked about. What do you want the audience to remember after the speech is over? What have they learned?
