Oral Presentation - The English Speaking World

From the core content for English 6:
“Teaching should cover living conditions, attitudes, values, social issues as well as cultural, historical and political conditions in different parts of the world where English is used, also in comparison to student’s own experiences and knowledge.”

The aim of this project is to learn about historical, cultural, societal and political topics within the English speaking world and  to practice informing about them in speech.  

 

Choose an area of interest that you would like to learn more about. Be specific about your topic, do not just talk about a country/region  in general. See examples below.

Examples:  minority groups, political parties, political system,  important historical events, refugee integration, working conditions, legislation, etc.

Important information:

• In this course segment you will be working in pairs and the presentations will take place week 2 (Thursday) in a small group. 

•  You need to get your topic approved by me before you start since we need to try to vary the topics as much as possible. 

• Listen and read about your topic to be able to inform your group members about it. You must use one audio source and at least two written sources in English for relevant information. Notice that you  may refer to your own experiences and knowledge, as well, if you want to.

• Create a  Google presentation to help explain what you are talking about.

• No reading from manuscript - use keywords 

• Length: 10-15 minutes

• Be prepared! Do not forget to practice!

 

To be handed in at latest on Tuesday, January 9 (at the end of the lesson)

• Your Google presentation

• A list of references  and a brief motivation for the choice of your two main sources. See separate document in the classroom.

• List of ten words with their translations in a context. See separate document in the classroom.

• A document with 5 study questions related to your presentation to share with your fellow students in order to check if they have understood the most important issues in your presentation
