We will be working with the book Awesome 7, which deals with English speaking countries in general, animals, gadgets and gizmos, horror stories, and different celebrations and holidays.

Bring to every class: Textbook, your computer & your notebook.

The "Activity Book" will be borrowed and used only during classes.

The Awesome series explores a world in which English is quickly becoming a global language. Large countries with big populations, such as the USA, India and China greatly influence how English is used. At the same time, English speakers in every country, including Sweden, also add to the language.

Awesome's textbooks, activity books and web material will help you become a better writer, speaker, listener and reader of English. You will also explore the variety of language in the countries where English is used. In Awesome 7 you will learn more about two English-speaking countries: Australia and India.

There are final speaking and writing tasks at the end of each chapter. You can do these to practise and show how much you have learned. The Toolbox will help you with speaking and writing skills. On the website Övningsmästaren www.ovningsmastaren.se you can listen to all the texts, practise words and phrases and work with more exercises. Please visit the above site at least twice a week to learn all the new words and phrases.

Syfte och kunskapsmål:

Efter arbetsområdet ska du:

• kunna läsa och förstå olika typer av texter med anknytning till temat

• kunna lyssna och förstå talad engelska i olika sammanhang (i t.ex. klassrumssituationen, hörtexter)

• delta i diskussioner och i dem uttrycka dina åsikter

• kunna uttrycka dig i skrift t.ex. i brevform (om dig och din vardag) samt i olika arbeten där du sammanställer egen information

• kunna fundera hur du bäst lär dig och utvecklar din engelska

• kunna ta ansvar för dina arbetsuppgifter

Arbetssätt:

Vi kommer att

• läsa och lyssna till olika typer av texter (se speciellt boken s. 30-41)

• tala kring innehållet i texterna samt träna på att beskriva ord och uttryck

• öva kommunikation samt utöka ordförrådet genom olika typer av lekar och spel

• arbeta aktivt med och utveckla strategier för ordinlärning och kommunikation

• genomföra enkla diskussionsövningar

• genomföra mindre skrivuppgifter

• genomföra en mindre muntlig presentation

Redovisningsformer:

För att visa vad du kan ska du

• vara aktiv i muntliga övningar och diskussioner på lektionerna

• genomföra muntliga och skriftliga läxförhör t.ex. på ord och uttryck

• skriva bl.a. ett dagboksinlägg där du låtsas vara ett djur

• genomföra läs- och hörförståelsetest

• genomföra skriftliga prov

Bedömning:

Vi bedömer i vilken grad du utvecklar följande färdigheter:

• Reception – lyssna och läsa
• Produktion – tala och skriva
• Interaktion – kommunicera skriftligt och muntligt

Vi kommer även att ha oförberedda test under terminen som är allmänna och inte direkt kopplade till det specifika arbetsområdet.
