Engelska åk 9 - Women who changed the world

You are going to be working with a project called Women who changed the world. You will find out more about a woman from the English speaking world and prepare a 5 minutes presentation about her in front of class. As well as finding out what she is famous for, I want you to find out about what it was like being a woman at the time "your" woman was active and if it is different from today. I also want you to include some information about the country she comes from. When you do your research I want you to be critical of your sources and verify that they are correct by checking for alternative sources. As part of your presentation I want you to prepare a Power Point, a Prezi or similar visual aid. Make sure that you use pictures and text in a smart way to make your message clear to the rest of the class. Below I have listed the main purpose and content from the syllabus but naturally you will also be practicing all four skills (reading, speaking, listening, writing) during this project.

Syfte

Vi skall arbeta med att:

Utveckla kunskaper om och förståelse för olika livsvillkor samt sociala och kulturella företeelser i områden och i sammanhang där engelska används.

Undervisningen skall bidra till att eleverna utvecklar kunskaper i att söka, värdera, välja och tillägna sig innehållet i talat språk och texter från olika källor. De skall också ges förutsättningar att kunna använda olika hjälpmedel för lärande, förståelse, skapande och kommunikation.

During the lessons you will do your research and start preparing your presentations. It is important that you are critical in your choice of sources. make sure you doube check your information. Remeber to use only English sources as your topics are English speakers and part of an English speaking culture.

Uppgifter

Women who changed the world

Here are the questions you must include in your research: • Who are you talking about? • When did she live? • Where did she live? You have to include information about the country she is from. • What was it like to be a woman at that time? (Were they allowed to vote? Could women go to school? Etc.) How is it different from what it’s like being a woman today? Would it have been different in Sweden? • What is she famous for? (show examples) • What do you think the world might have looked like without her input? Prepare a 5 minute presentation where you use powerpoint, Prezi, Emaze or any other optional presentation tool. Remember that you are only allowed to use key words if you have to have notes at all.
