Social Media vs the Real World (Eng6)

Welcome to the wonderful cyberspace! During a few weeks’ time, we will dig deep into social networks and discuss the use of those. You will read some articles that show different perspectives on Facebook, watch a film, and find out everything about a very, very rich young man. You will also need work with grammar, because the examination of the project is through an essay.

• Read the article "FBI using Facebook in fight against crime" or "What is Social Networking?", summarize + retell it to a friend.
• Find an article that your find interesting, remember to be aware and critical towards the source you have chosen.

The online magazine “Computer World” has noticed that a lot of people have a lot of opinions on Facebook and other social networks. Therefore, the magazine has decided to make a special issue on social networking, and has announced for readers’ essays on the topic. You are to participate! Write an essay on topics from the articles. You may use the questions below, or come up with own ideas. Make sure to connect your thoughts to the film and the articles by giving examples and comparing. This shows that you have understood the material we have studied. Title: The Social Network Length: 300-600 words Questions to brainstorm and get you started: - Your general reactions and thoughts about the film. - What do you think about Mark’s acting through the process of making and establishing Facebook? Comment the way his relationships with his friends develop (consider for example Erica, Eduardo, Sean Parker, the Winklevoss twins). - Are you a member of a social network? Why? How do you use it? When? How are you affected if a friend of yours is not a member? (If you’re not a member you can write about that!) - How would your life change if you were not a member?
