English speaking countries

In this assignment you will research about different English speaking countries and compare it to Sweden. I have chosen 6 countries that you can choose from. You will work in groups consisting of 3 and 4 people. You start with a search for information about your country and then present it to your classmates.

The English Speaking World

You are going to present an English speaking country, and compare it to your own experiences and knowledge of Sweden.

The countries that you can choose from are the following:

• India 

• Australia 

• South Africa 

• New Zealand 
• Canada 
• Malta

First, start by finding the information you want. You can use the Internet, literature and encyclopedias. Remember to write down your sources!

 

Your presentation should contain the following:

• A picture of the country and the flag
• Capital
• Population /people
• Structure of government
• Languages spoken in the country.
• Education
• A teenager´s ordinary day (food, school, activities)
• Why do they speak English in your country?
• Can you find a clip with the national version of English?

Your presentation could also contain the following:

* Animal life
* Famous sports
* Famous people from the country

- Interesting historical facts?
- Famous sights
* Pictures of your own choice

Your presentation should take a couple of minutes. Divide the work within your groups as to who covers what area/areas of the country. Don´t forget to compare your findings to your own experiences and knowledge of Sweden.

I want you to use Power Point when you present your findings and that you include a minimum of 5 pictures in your presentation. I want all of you to hand in your text immediately after you have held your presentation where you clearly write about your area/areas that you have presented to your classmates. This means that you write individually about your specific area/areas. Write your text on the computer.

Remember to write down your sources! You must include sources to show where you found your information. You show your sources on the last page/slide in your PP and on the last page of your text. You can use the Internet, literature and encyclopedias.

You will have 5 lessons at your hand. Deadline, when you start your presentations, is week 5, Wednesday the 3/2.

 

Remember to have some time to prepare and practice for your presentation!

Kriterier

• Eleven kan förstå det huvudsakliga innehållet och uppfatta tydliga detaljer i talad engelska i måttligt tempo i olika genrer.
• Eleven kan välja texter och talat språk från olika medier samt med viss relevans använda det valda materialet i sin egen produktion och interaktion.
• I muntliga framställningar i olika genrer kan eleven formulera sig enkelt, begripligt och relativt sammanhängande.
• För att förtydliga och variera sin kommunikation kan eleven bearbeta och göra enkla förbättringar av egna framställningar.
• Eleven diskuterar översiktligt några företeelser i olika sammanhang och områden där engelska används, och kan då också göra enkla jämförelser med egna erfarenheter och kunskaper.
• I skriftliga framställningar i olika genrer kan eleven formulera sig enkelt, begripligt och relativt sammanhängande.
