We will work with the UK, mainly with on how they live in these countries compared to other countries. Teenage life, traditions, literature and landscape will be some of the areas that we will have a closer look at.

The work

We will work with listening, speaking, reading and writing in different ways, and there will be a focus on how they live in the UK compared to other countries.

American and British (English) English, Thursday April 20th

Focus: Learning some of the differences between American and British pronunciation (uttal) and vocabulary/words. Learning some strategies that you can use when trying to learn about more differences yourself. 1) Practice using the "practice dialogue" about ordering food at a restaurant. Use Cambridge Dictionary if you are unsure of how to pronounce the words in British or American English. 2) Come up with one or a few dialogues yourself, where you make an British English version and an American English version (pair work). Write your dialogue/s in this task and hand in after the lesson. Use words that are specific for British and American English, so it is possible to see the difference between the dialogues. Use your imagination. You can look at the dialogues from "Practical English conversations for esl" (they read the dialogue in American English).

What I find interesting about the U.K.

In this task you choose to write about something that you find interesting about the U.K., something you want to learn more about. You about 1/2-1 page (A4, size 12) about this in an essay.

Teenage life in Sweden and in the U.K.

One thing you must do in English class is to reflect on (think about) culture and way of life in areas where English is spoken. Task: Compare teenage life in the U.K. to teenage life in Sweden. There are two different ways you can do this: 1) Compare the lives of Joshua Lord and Jessica Law (texts in the textbook) to your own. What are the similiarities and the differences? OR 2) Compare teenage life in general. What are the similiarities and the differences between living as a teen in the U.K. and in Sweden? You may use other information than the texts in the book, but I want to know where you got the information from (your source/sources - källa/källor). "A comparison teenage life in the U.K. and Sweden" is something you can use when you plan your text. I have written some help sentences and words that you can use. "A comparison - writing together" is a model text you can look at. This is what I want from you. Good luck!
