Four skills, week 34-40

You will start by looking at the goals (målen) in English for year seven. Then you will set your own goals and wishes (önskningar) for this term at Unikum. You will work with both reading, listening, writing and speaking. In the end you will fill in a matris at Unikum. All of the assignments has to be done week 39. We hope you enjoy it!

Response list:

* Correct vocabulary in the sentence (she’s/her)

* Grammar mistakes (is/are, was/were, have/has, wordorder, verb tenses)

* Spelling mistakes (whit = with, to/too, your/you’re, its/it’s, meat/meet

* Spoken and written language (gonna-going to, wanna-want to, you-u)

* Then make sure you have; - a capital (stor) letter in the beginning of every sentence and capital letter on I in a sentence. - dot (punkt) in the end of every sentence - Not too long sentences, use dots and commas

* If you use abbreviations (förkortningar) (it’s, wasn’t etc., make sure you put the apostrophe in the right place (not its). If you are unsure about how to use abbreviations, just write it is, was not etc.

* Look for variation in your text How to begin a sentence (not too many I, he, she) You mustn’t begin a sentence with and, because etc. (these are linking words).

* Use a variation of difficult words and expressions.

* Look for correct preposition words, i.e. angry with (not at), look at (not on).

OBS! Before you hand in your text you let at least (minst) one person read your text!

Uppgifter

You have to leave earth

Writing exercise! You are going to write a continuous text by reading and answer the questions to the seven parts. Feel free to use your imagination. Before you hand in your text, you follow the response list and let at least one student read your text. 1. The destruction of earth It is year 2093. The planet, “Tellus”, can’t take it anymore. After centuries of war and environmental pollution earth is about to collapse. Imagine that you are one of the people living on earth at this period of time. - What are your thoughts? - How do you feel? - What does it look like on earth? 2. New hope! Through increased fundings, from the authorities, the space scientists have managed to find a place suitable for human life. It is a planet situated far from our galaxy, The Milky Way. Fifteen people, with different qualities, have been selected to pass on the human race. You are one of them. - What is the name of the planet? - How did the scientists discover it? - Why were you selected? - Who are the other fourteen people? 3. Departure It’s time for you to leave earth. You are heading against an uncertain future. - How do you feel? - What are the reactions among the people who are left behind? - How do you travel to the new planet (what kind of transportation)? - What do you bring? - Which things will be of use in your “new home”? 4. The journey The journey is adventurous and full of hardships. Eventually you reach the new planet. - Describe the journey! - What does the planet look like? - What makes it different from earth? - Is there any kind of life? - How do you build your new society? - Where do you settle and why did you choose that spot? 5. The New Life You are far away from your old life when it comes to distance, but in your thoughts it’s close. - What will life be like on the new planet? - What do you miss the most? - What is better/worse on your new planet? 6. 3 months later It has now been about three months since you left earth. Thanks to an amazing invention it is now possible to send e-mails to earth. - Write an e-mail to the person or the people you miss the most. - Tell him/her/them about life on the new planet. - Ask questions about things you are wondering about. - Is there still life on earth? - Is there a receiver for your e-mail? 7. The End Write an end to your space adventure. Bring up the following issues: - How will your traditions, manners and customs change? - What do you keep from your old traditions? Will you celebrate Christmas, New Year and other festivals? - Will the new planet be the perfect place to live (will it be a better place than earth)? - Is this the end of war, environmental pollution, bullying, harassment, violence and so on? Or will you make the same mistakes that people have done from time immemorial? - Will there ever be a possibility to go back to earth? - Would you then leave your new home and go back to earth or would you rather stay?
