The Landlady

Interpret and analyze a short story called The Landlady by Roald Dahl

Go to www.commonlit.org and search for “The Landlady”. Read the short story. While reading, take notes or highlight text passages on how the two main characters (protagonists) are described.

 

Alternative A: Write a text where you make a description of each person. How do they look like? What are their personality traits? Try to use as much descriptive language as possible.

 

Alternative B: Make a description of the protagonists, look above. Considering your finished description, what details are written in the text and what details are your own conclusions? Did you find any hints for these in the text? Explain.

Alternative C: Make a description of the protagonists, look above. As a reader, what kind of conclusion can you draw about the landlady from her conversation with Billy in the sitting room? What do you think is the theme of the text? Give examples from the text.
