Film review; Pay it forward

Your assignment is to write a film review about the movie Pay it forward. Your text should be about one A4 computer written page or two hand written pages. Write it as a flowing text not as answers to questions.

Prepare answers to the following questions. Write them in your notebook. Remember to explain and give examples from the film that support your opinion. When you’re finished you will sit down in groups and discuss your answers.

1. Describe the following people in the film when it comes to their personalities, who they are, if they go to school, work etc and if you feel sympathy with them: Trevor, Arlene and Mr. Simonet.
2. What kind of assignment do the students get at school?
3. What does Trevor decide to do? Describe and explain.
4. What are the results of his project? Explain.
5. Trevor is only eleven years old, but takes on a lot of responsibility for his mother. Explain and give examples!
6. Children need good male and female role models. Who are Trevor’s male role models?
7. At the end of the film many people have gathered in front of Trevor’s house. If Trevor could have seen this, what do you think he would have felt? Disappointment, satisfaction, hope, something else?
8. What can we do to make earth a better place for living? What can each and one of us do?
9. Our world is full of violence, war and injustice. Is everyone born good? What makes us into who we are?

You need to include the following parts in your report. Your text should be about one A4 computer written page or two hand written pages. Write it as a flowing text not as answers to questions.

• Who is Trevor and what is he like. Describe his personality.
• Describe Trevor’s project and its results. Explain.
• What happens to Trevor at the end and why?
• What is the meaning of the title “Pay it forward”. Explain your thoughts.
• What is the message of the film? What does the director want us to learn from it? Explain your thoughts and why.
• What was your opinion of the film? Who would you recommend it to?

(You will be graded on your film review.)

Konkretisering av mål:

Eleven ska efter avslutat arbetsområde kunna skriva en filmrecension på engelska genom att uttrycka sig väl så att andra förstår och att texten är anpassad utifrån sammanhang och mottagare. Ytterligare ska eleven kunna avgränsa sin text och skriva med eget språk. Eleven ska kunna delta i ett samtal på engelska kring filmen Pay it forwards innehåll. 

Arbetssätt:

Eleven ska arbeta enskilt med att bearbeta filmen handling och därefter redovisa sina svar och tankar i en gruppdiskussion. Eleven ska även enskilt skriva en filmrecension om filmen i vilken givna frågeställningar ska behandlas. Det material som eleven har tillgång till är filmen, frågeställningar till skrivuppgift samt diskussionsuppgifter till filmens handling. 

Bedömning:

Elevens förmåga att kommunicera skriftligt examineras genom den filmrecension som eleven ska skriva och viss bedömning kommer även att genomföras på elevens kommunikativa förmåga under gruppdiskussion kring filmens innehåll.
