English Spring Term 2019

This term we will be working with many different types of texts (poems, information texts, instructions and poems) as models for writing. We will be learning lots of new vocabulary, grammar (is/are, was/were, an/a, verbs in the past tense) and developing questions to develop interaction. We will be using ipads to develop vocabulary and grammar.

Goals

• To be able to read and understand a range of texts including non fiction. 
• To develop the ability to write in complete sentences using capital letters and full stops.
• To learn to spell an increasing number of words correctly.
• To develop typing skills.
• To develop the ability to revise and edit texts.
• To develop the ability to explain and describe by sharing information with others. 
• To be able to monitor your own reading and self correct for meaning and ask about unknown words. 
• To expand English vocabulary. 
• To be able to listen and understand simple English. 

Activities in the Unit Include: 

• taking part in past tense investigation games. 
• showing your understanding of texts through text transformation activities.
• using the ipad for exploring the irregular tenses and Learning vocabulary. 
• creating spelling rules for past tense. 
• asking questions which will keep the converation going. 
• reading non-fiction, information books, instructions, stories and poems. 
• learning how to pronounce new words. 
• collecting new words and developing strategies for spelling them. 
• Listen to stories and write the correct reponse. 

 How the Learning  Will be Assessed:

• how well you use verbs in the past tense. 
• if you can spell verbs in the past tense. 
• how well you can use irregular verbs in the past tense. 
• can you use questions to stimulate a response from another person 
• how well you read for meaning and develop tools for summarising what has been read. 
• how well you are able to explore the meanings of new words and how to spell them. 
• how well you are able to share information in groups and develop discussion techniques. 
• How well you can listen and understand through small activities.
