Adaptation 8.2

What shapes a life? We look at social (class) structures and relationships, circumstances etc. What can we learn from literature about history and societal as well as personal development? What shapes a text? We look at interpretation and intertexuality and how different versions of a story can carry, strengthen, weaken or twist the ideas of the original.

CONTENT

We will...

...study two main texts - 'An Inspector Calls' by  J.B. Priestly's and 'Great Expectations' by Charles Dickens - in different forms. 

...look at how history and societal change is reflected in fiction.

...study some conventions of adaptation and drama.

...use storyboarding.

TARGET

By the end of the course you should...

...have expanded your vocabulary on drama and literature.

...be able to use storyboarding as a dramatic and an explanatory tool.

...be able to actively participate in text reading (in concrete terms: you can follow a text and without hesitation take over reading).
