Description of the interior of a fictive (or real) person's room as part of a story

What is your first impression of a room that you've never entered before? How can you describe its interior? What furniture, decorations or parts of the interior relate to the person/people living there?

Assignment: 

You are going to write a text where you describe what the interior looks like in a fictive (or real) person's room. There are words in the vocabulary list, on pp 86-87 in your textbook (Wings 7), that you can use in your text. 

Your text is part of a story where you, as a narrator, enter a room in which you have never been before. Describe the room and everything inside it with all your senses: taste, smell, sight, touch, hearing and sight.

You begin your text with the words:

When I open/opened the door...

Then you continue the story with your description of the room. Make sure that you give some thoughts and reflections of your own to what you encounter in the room.
