What?

Reading and Listening Comprehension (= läs- och hörförståelse):

1. Read written texts, novels (= romaner), etc.

2. Listen to conversations and radio shows, watch films, etc.

3. Strategies for understanding written and spoken English.

Writing and Speaking:

4. Source criticism (= källkritik).

5. Writing and speaking English in different genres and levels of formality.

6. Edit (= redigera) and improve your own texts and speech.

7. Strategies for improving communication, and making yourself understood.

Culture:

8. Culture and life in the English-speaking world.

Why?

You will need to:

Reading and Listening Comprehension:

1. Understand written English, in different genres, etc.

2. Understand spoken English, in different genres, etc.

3. Develop strategies for understanding.

Writing and Speaking:

4. Find information sources, and decide if you can trust the information.

5. Write and speak English in varied contexts (= sammanhang).

6. Improve and edit your use of English, and adapt (= anpassa dig) to different situations.

7. Find ways to communicate, fix misunderstandings, and improve communication.

Culture:

8. Show an understanding of what is special or typical of countries like the US and Britain, especially compared to your own life and Swedish culture.

How?

Reading and Listening Comprehension:

1. Read, discuss, and write about novels and short texts.

2. Listen to, discuss, and write about radio shows, conversations, films and TV programmes.

3. Go through and practice strategies for understanding.

Writing and Speaking:

4. Finding and citing (= citera, skriva källhänvisning) sources for your own texts.

5. Written tests, writing your own texts in different genres, take part in discussions and giving speeches, practicing ways to vary your language (grammar, vocabulary, using synonyms).

6. Using feedback from your previous work and drafts to improve your texts. Change and adapt how you speak and write English, according to (= enligt, anpassat till) who you are speaking to, and what the situation is.

7. Go through and practice different ways of fixing problems in communication (misunderstandings, describing what you mean when you forget the word) and improving discussions (how to keep a conversation going by asking questions, rephrase what someone has said to make sure you have understood).

Culture:

8. Watch films or read texts, etc., that show differences and similarities in life and culture in the English-speaking world and Sweden. Discussing, in writing and speech, how you compare them. Write reports on English-speaking countries, American states, and so on.

You can use some strategies to help you understand.

Writing and Speaking:

You can find and choose different sources of information to use in your own texts and speech.

You can write and speak English with some variety (for instance, use synonyms instead of repeating the same word), clarity (so that others can understand what you mean), and coherency (=röd tråd). You can do this in different contexts, in conversations and in prepared speeches and texts.

You can use feedback and what you have learned to improve and edit your texts and speech.

You can slightly fix misunderstandings (for instance, asking someone to rephrase what they said), and improve communication (for instance, ask follow-up questions).

Culture:

You can basically discuss some things that are typical of countries like the US and Britain, and compare them to your own life and Swedish culture.

 

C:
