2. Listen to conversations and radio shows, watch films, etc., including in formal and complex contexts.

3. Strategies for understanding written and spoken English.

4. Different uses of English in society (for instance, in politics and advertisement).

Writing and Speaking:

5. Source criticism (= källkritik).

6. Writing and speaking English in different genres, including in formal and complex contexts.

7. Edit and improve your own texts and speech.

8. Strategies for improving communication, and making yourself understood.

Culture:

9. Culture and life in the English-speaking world, including values and contemporary topics.

10. Literature analysis and history (periods, important works and authors).

You will need to:

Reading and Listening Comprehension:

1. Understand written English, in different genres, etc., including in formal and complex contexts.

2. Understand spoken English, in different genres, etc., including in formal and complex contexts.

3. Develop strategies for understanding.

4. Understand how language can be changed and used to convey different messages and serve different purposes.

Writing and Speaking:

5. Find information sources, and decide if you can trust the information.

6. Write and speak English in varied, including formal and complex, contexts.

7. Improve and edit your use of English, and adapt to different situations, especially in formal contexts.

8. Find ways to communicate, fix misunderstandings, and improve communication.

Culture:

9. Show an understanding of what is special or typical of countries like the US and Britain, especially compared to your own life and Swedish culture. Understand some contemporary issues where English is used.

10. Understand how different literary tricks can be used to convey themes, emotion, etc., and ways for the audience to see this. Know about the history of English literature, and some important examples therein.

How?

Reading and Listening Comprehension:

1. Read, discuss, and write about novels, newspaper articles, debates, etc.

2. Listen to, discuss, and write about radio shows, conversations, films and TV programmes.

3. Go through and practice strategies for understanding.

4. Look at and discuss examples of how English can be used to serve different purposes (for instance, using euphemisms and dysphemisms to make something appear better or worse, more important, etc.). Write argumentative texts where you use some of these techniques.

Writing and Speaking:

5. Finding and citing (= citera, skriva källhänvisning) sources for your own texts.

6. Written tests, writing your own texts in different genres, take part in discussions and giving speeches, practicing ways to vary your language (grammar, vocabulary, using synonyms). Writing texts in formal and complex contexts, such as formal letters of introduction and essays.

7. Using feedback from your previous work and drafts to improve your texts. Change and adapt how you speak and write English, according to who you are speaking to, and what the situation is, including in formal and complex contexts.

8. Go through and practice different ways of fixing problems in communication (misunderstandings, describing what you mean when you forget the word) and improving discussions (how to keep a conversation going by asking questions, rephrase what someone has said to make sure you have understood).

Culture:

9. Watch films or read texts, etc., that show differences and similarities in life and culture in the English-speaking world and Sweden. Discussing, in writing and speech, how you compare them. Discuss and write essays about contemporary issues in the US and Britain, etc.

10. Go through major periods in English literary history and study some important examples therein. Read and analyse a novel.

E: 

Reading and Listening Comprehension:

You can understand the general idea and basic details of relatively quickly spoken and written English in different genres, including formal contexts.

You can use some strategies to help you understand.

Writing and Speaking:

You can find and choose different sources of information to use relevantly and efficiently in your own texts and speech. You can do source criticism.

You can write and speak English with fluency and relative variety, clarity, and coherency (=röd tråd). You can do this in different, including formal and complex, contexts, in conversations and in relatively structured prepared speeches and texts.

You can use feedback and what you have learned to improve and edit your texts and speech.

You can slightly fix misunderstandings (for instance, asking someone to rephrase what they said), and make simple improvements to communication (for instance, ask follow-up questions).

Culture:

You can discuss in general terms some contemporary topics and things that are typical of countries like the US and Britain, and make simple comparisons to your own life and Swedish culture.

You can write and speak English with fluency, variety, clarity and coherency, and relatively freely. You can do this in different, including formal and complex, contexts, in conversations and in structured prepared speeches and texts.

You can use feedback and what you have learned to make considered improvements and edit your texts and speech.

You can fix misunderstandings and make improvements to communication.
