Cell and Human Organ systems

Many people have compared the human body to a machine. Think about some common machines, such as drills and washing machines. Each machine consists of many parts, and each part does a specific job, yet all the parts work together to perform an overall function. The human body is like a machine in all these ways. In fact, it may be the most fantastic machine on Earth, as you will discover when you learn more about it in this unit on human body systems.

INNEHÅLL/CONTENT

In this unit we will learn about life processes starting from the basic unit of life -Cell and its structure, characteristics of living organisms, DIfferent cell organelles an their function in the cell. We will then move on to the various organ systems of human body. We will work using various tools, activites, games and projects.

MÅL/TARGET

• Outline the levels of organization of the human body.

• Explain how organ systems maintain homeostasis of the body.

• Explain how the heart pumps blood throughout the body.

• Define cardiovascular disease, and list its risk factors.

• Describe blood, blood components, and blood pressure.

• Define respiration, and explain how it differs from cellular respiration.

• Identify the organs of the respiratory system.

• Outline the processes of ventilation, gas exchange, and gas transport.

• Describe the role of gas exchange in homeostasis.

• Explain how the rate of breathing is regulated.

• Identify diseases of the respiratory system.

• Identify the organs and functions of the digestive system.

• Outline the roles of the mouth, esophagus, and stomach in digestion.

• Explain how digestion and absorption occur in the small intestine.

• List functions of the large intestine.

• Describe common diseases of the digestive system.

• Identify classes of nutrients and their functions in the human body.

• Explain how to use MyPyramid and food labels as tools for balanced eating.

 There will be different tasks and one lab, to assess the knowledge and skills, that are distributed one by one. These assessments are individual and written. Each assignment has a separate deadline for submission.

• Eleven kan samtala om och diskutera frågor som rör hälsa, naturbruk och ekologisk hållbarhet och skiljer då fakta från värderingar och formulerar ställningstaganden med enkla motiveringar samt beskriver några tänkbara konsekvenser.
• I diskussionerna ställer eleven frågor och framför och bemöter åsikter och argument på ett sätt som till viss del för diskussionerna framåt.
• Eleven kan söka naturvetenskaplig information och använder då olika källor och för enkla och till viss del underbyggda resonemang om informationens och källornas trovärdighet och relevans.
• Eleven kan använda informationen på ett i huvudsak fungerande sätt i diskussioner och för att skapa enkla texter och andra framställningar med viss anpassning till syfte och målgrupp.

modifying the senses has on the results

Equipment:

Ruler, pencil, recording table

Method:

1.Work with a partner. The tester holds the ruler at the top while the subject gets ready to catch the ruler by placing his or her open thumb and forefinger just below the ruler.

2.On the count of 3(go) the tester drops the ruler and the subject tries to

catch it as quickly as possible.

3.Make 3 attempts and mark them on the ruler

4.Make 3 more attempts, this time without the count of 3

5.Make 3 more attempts, without the count of 3 and this time using the

opposite hand

6.Make 3 more attempts with eyes closed and the tester saying ‘go’

when dropping the ruler

**Swap over with your partner

Results:
