Reading project 8A+8B ht 2019: w.41-47

This is a reading project in which you will read books in groups of 3-5. You will discuss the book both orally in groups and through starters - 3 shorter texts.
The oral examination will be in groups where you will discuss three or four different subjects.

Goals

• Reading an English novel
• Writing 3 shorter texts about the: introduction, one character, messages and your own opinions.
• In groups you will discuss the book's: introduction, plot, characters, settings, messages, examples from the English Culture, your favourite scene and own opinions.

Way of working

You will:

• divide the book into 4 parts
• read 1 part/week (1/4 of the book)
• use w.44 (autumn holiday) to read if you need to
• get 3 starters in which you will write about the book
• discuss the book during lessons

The reading should be done by Wednesday each week!

Syfte

• förstå och tolka innehållet i talad engelska och i olika slags texter,

Describe a character

Describe one of the main characters. Use the table (See Describing a character).

Short Writing 1: The introduction of the book

Read about 2 pages of the book and then reflect upon the introduction of the book.

• How does the book begin, the first sentence/s (unexpected, direct, makes you interested, shows what the book will be about, describes characters or setting, ...)?
• Are there descriptions (of the characters, the settings -long descriptions of the characters backgrounds, detailed descriptions of the setting )?
• What about the language, is it easy/difficult, older, poetic, etc?
• What are your opinions about the introduction? Why do think that?
• Give examples and/or quotes from the book to support your thoughts.

Short Writing 3: The messages and own opinions

The messages:

• What are the messages of the book?
• If you must put every message together in one single word, what would they be?
• What do you think about the messages?
• Have you experienced something like that?
• Also give examples from the book to “prove” the message (things that happen in the book that shows the message/s).

Own opinions:

• What's your overall opinion of the book?
• Was the language easy or difficult? Is it easy to follow?
• Does the title of the book fit the story?
• Did your first impression of the book change? Why?
• How are you as a reader affected by the way the book is written?
• What did you like? What did you not like?
• Was the ending as you had expected it to be? Would you like to change the ending?
• To whom would you recommend the book?
• Did you get any questions after reading the book? 

Remember to describe and explain why you think as you do! 

Give examples or quotes from the book to support your thoughts and opinions.
