A letter of confession

"One thing I know, it’s the sound of a man digging a hole. I’ve done it enough times myself, believe me. I know the sound of the shovel hitting the ground, the thud of the dirt landing on the pile. "

Here you will learn about the following:

 

- How to write a letter in English

- What to think about when writing a letter

- To describe and argument a little bit

- Practise your reading skills, vocabulary and verbs in past tense

- Using what you read and combine it into your writing

 

This is what you do:

1. Read the short story A shovel with my name on it 

Write four questions to the text and answer them.

Take out 15- 20 words: put five of them in sentences, write definitions to five of them and find antonyms (motsatser) to five of them.

 

Example:

Sentences: When I write on paper I use a pencil to shape letters.

Definitions: barrel: it can be made out of wood or steel and you can fill the inside with something for example liquid

Antonyms: happy - sad , boy - girl

 

 

2. Watch the movie "The Shovel" The shovel - short film

 

3. Write a letter:

You are going to write a letter of confession. Imagine you are the sheriff from the story A shovel with my name on it. You got away with murder and now, at the end of your life, you want to confess your crime before you die.

 

Write a letter where you tell what really happened that night, at Hank’s house. Try to come up with a credible explanation according to the information you got from the text. Try fill that hole in the story and write about 350 words.

• Write a letter.
• Use the past tense.
• Structure your text in paragraphs (stycken).
• Use an appropriate language.
• Follow general rules for grammar and writing.
• Follow the rules for writing with the computer.
