Engelska 5: English Around the World Project

English is a world language, but how come it is spoken on so many various places around the world, how do the different varieties of English sound and what is every-day life and culture like in different English-speaking countries? These are questions we will try to answer while working with this project!

English Around the World: 

Presentation of an English-Speaking Country

 

You have done a gap year in an English-speaking country and when you returned you were asked to make a presentation about some of the country’s language and history, but also about what it’s like to live and study in this country compared to Sweden.

Your presentation should be 4-8 minutes long and include information about the following:

• General information about the country:  E.g. location, size, population and religion. (Keep this part short - it’s only meant to be an introduction!)

• Language history: What are the official languages in this country and what events in the history of the country have made these languages the official ones? How come English is one of the official languages? 

• This country’s variety of English: Try to find a short example of the English accent of the country on e.g. Youtube and include it in your presentation.

• Family life: What is family life normally like in your country? Compare it to family life in Sweden.

• School system: What is the school system like in your country? Compare it to the school system we have in Sweden.

• Your opinion: Do you think this is a good country to do a gap year in? Why/why not?

List of sources: Use at least two different reliable sources, and remember that they need to be in English.

The examination of this project will be an oral presentation which you either record and submit with the help of a technical device or present directly in front of your teacher.
