We are going to learn more about English speaking countries and find out what is similar and what is different, as well as becoming better at speaking English.
You and your classmate (if you choose to work in pairs) are going to make a trip to an English-speaking country and during a few weeks you will be able to get to know this country a little bit more.
On your trip you are going to learn about the country, climate, the capital, how people live, the school system, etc and you will write the facts about them. The topics are listed below and you need to choose as many as you can to fill in the time slot that you wish to do. You will then be asked to compare at least 3 topics with Sweden. For instance, you can compare the climate, school system and the food between your English speaking country and Sweden. You will find this assignment in digital format on Google classroom.
Project requirements:
Written: 400 words (minimum) per person and written in a Word document (not Google document) – this is the manuscript. Name your document to: English-speaking countries + your name and class.
The finished manuscript should be emailed to me at:Radmila.Trkulja@Halmstad.se
The manuscript is the text/sentences that you will be presenting orally and by heart – while having your PowerPoint on the whiteboard.
Any new and unfamiliar words that you encounter while writing your project and manuscript, I’d like you to write them down and then also the Swedish translation - on the last page of your manuscript.
Font: Calibri size 14 – for the Word document where you will write the manuscript. Remember to write your full name and class in the top left corner. Don’t forget to write the headline at the top of the document, preferably centered: English-speaking countries
PowerPoint – you will do a PowerPoint presentation and present your country from your PowerPoint slides. The PowerPoint slides should only contain the bullet points with key facts, as you are required to learn the manuscript by heart. You should not read from the manuscript while presenting. Name your PowerPoint to: English-speaking countries + name. You can use your imagination when choosing the layout, font of text and background of your slides.
Oral presentation: Alone 5 minutes, or in a group of two for about 9-10 minutes in front of your classmates. Practice at home to check how much time your presentation takes.
You will present your PowerPoint orally, face to face, in front of your classmates or in a smaller group. By the time you have finished this assignment, (after Easter) we will hopefully be back in school full time. If this doesn’t happen, you will be presenting online to your class.
Visual aids: Show pictures and maps in your PowerPoint presentation, which shows where in the world the country/city is located.
Topics to write about
1. Facts about the country
2. Facts about the capital
3. Maps and pictures showing where in the world the country and the capital are located (as well as the continent). Feel free to add a video clip about the country or capital (maximum 30 seconds long). You may also want to add a photo of the flag of your particular country.
4. History of the country and capital (or another interesting city).
5. Climate
6. Famous person coming from the country or capital (or any other interesting city).
7. Did you know…add some interesting facts about the country/capital/city

Once you have written the information and facts about your English speaking country, you will then compare a few interesting topics (maximum 3 – from the list above) with Sweden.
