Forrest Gump 8A + 8B w.7-13 spring 2023

During w.7-13 you are going to work with the movie Forrest Gump. You will interact and discuss the movie orally, as well as in written. You will also learn about and show your knowledge about the USA.

Goals

• to develop the ability and necessary strategies to watch and listen to an English movie

• to develop the ability to orally and in writing, discuss something that you have seen and heard

• to motivate your thoughts and ideas by giving examples of facts and what happen in the movie

• to be active in the conversation and help to keep the conversation going (= improve your interaction)

• to use different strategies to solve linguistic difficulties while speaking and writing (e.g. explain a word or a phrase you don't know)

Way of working 

• You are going to watch a movie – Forrest Gump.

• You will have several occasions during class when you discuss the movie with one, or some class mates.

• You will get one shortwriting-topic to write about - the main character, Forrest Gump

• You will get one topic to discuss at home and film yourself while discussing the topic -  intelligence. You will get questions to support your discussion.

• You will talk and write about the plot, the characters, the environment, different scenes, messages, historical and political events, etc.

• You will write a final assignment, an Examination, in which you are going to pretend to be one of the main characters, but not Forrest Gump!

• You will give response (stars and wishes + mark mistakes with colours) to one class mate's text (Examination).

• You will revise your Examination text, using the response you have received.

Tuesday 14/2

• STARTER: 2 and 2:  You'll get a historical event to find information about.
• Find facts about your historical event on the Internet.

Wednesday 15/2

• STARTER: Prepare for presentation of your historical event, 1-2 minutes
• Presentations in class - historical events. We'll start with the KKK, then Elvis...Finish with HIV/Aids
• Watch the movie: 0min-18min (20 min)

Tuesday 21/2 (Utvecklingssamtal, vi bryter kl.11.00 = 8B har ingen engelska)

• STARTER: Mini-test - historical events (10 min)
• The plan in Unikum + Where to find material (5 min)
• Discuss with your bench mate 1. What happens in the first 18 min of the movie? 2. Describe Forrest! 3. What does "Stupid is what Stupid does" mean? (10 min)

• STARTER: Instructions examinations, three different (5 min)

•  Homework for Wednesday w.11 Short exercise 2: Intelligence to Short exercise 2 You are going to film yourself when you discuss intelligence and what it means to you.
