Reading novels 7

Reading is great for everything, well, almost anything! You learn the meaning of new words and get better at spelling. You also improve your imagination by sharing other people’s experiences, thoughts and feelings. You get to travel to other places and times and hopefully have great fun while doing it.

Syfte

Genom undervisningen i ämnet engelska ska eleverna ges förutsättningar att utveckla sin förmåga att

- förstå och tolka innehållet i talad engelska och i olika slags texter,

- formulera sig och kommunicera i tal och skrift,

- använda språkliga strategier för att förstå och göra sig förstådda.

Centralt innehåll åk 7-9

- Skönlitteratur och andra texter.

- Hur texter kan varieras för olika syften och sammanhang.

- Språkliga strategier för att förstå texter.

What we will do

During a couple of weeks you are going to read and listen to a book. You will get to choose what book you want to read. At the end of each reading you will write in your reading journal. Collect words while you read. Broaden and enlarge your vocabulary.

Hand in your reading journal and your word list on Showbie.

If you want to you can also write a bookreport. 

Assessment

The teacher will read and assess your reading journal and the new words you have learnt. If you choose to write a book report that will also be assessed. 

Uppgifter

Book Talk

When you have read your book and finished your reading journal, you may present your book to a group of your classmates. I will also listen. The instructions are in the document. Let me know if something is unclear. I will make groups when I know who wants to do a presentation.

Book Report

You have read a book and written a reading journal. Now, you may use your reading journal to present your book and what you think about it in a book report. Include the points in the instructions below. Let me know if anything is unclear. Hand in your book report using Showbie, deadline is 5 May.

Reading Journal Practice

When you begin to read your books, you will write in your reading journal on Showbie. We will start by practicing together. I will read the first chapter of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. You will also have the text in front of you. Afterwards, we will answer the question "What did you get to know about the main character in chapter 1?" You can make notes or underline words during the reading. Then you will get a few minutes to think about the answer. Finally, we will make a mind map together to organise the things we have found out.
