Writing, reading and listening, week 34-37

We will discuss the goals in English for year nine. You will work with reading, listening and writing. At the end you will fill in a matris at Unikum. All of the assignments has to be done by week 37. We hope you enjoy it!

Week 34 - Introduction aims year nine, look at planning, Start with the writing exercise "A letter to my younger self" 

Week 35 - Continue with writing exercise. Receive response from at least one student, (look at grammar videos) and hand in your text here at Unikum.

Week 37 - Reading and listening test

Response list:

* Correct vocabulary in the sentence (she’s/her)

* Grammar mistakes (is/are, was/were, have/has, your/you’re, word order, verb tenses)

* Spelling mistakes (whit = with, to/too, your/you’re, its/it’s, meat/meet

* Spoken and written language (gonna-going to, wanna-want to, you-u)

* Then make sure you have; - a capital (stor) letter at the beginning of every sentence and capital letter on I in a sentence. - a period (punkt) at the end of every sentence - Not too long sentences, use periods and commas

* If you use abbreviations (förkortningar) (it’s, wasn’t etc., make sure you put the apostrophe in the right place. If you are unsure how to use abbreviations, just write the full words (is or was not etc.).

* Look for variation in your text. How to begin a sentence (not too many I, he, she) You mustn’t begin a sentence with and, because etc. (these are linking words).

* Use a variation of difficult words and expressions.

* Look for correct preposition words, i.e. angry with (not at), look at (not on).

NOTE! Before you hand in your text, let at least (minst) one person read your text!

Uppgifter

Writing exercise

In this exercise, you are writing to yourself at a younger age. It can be your childhood self or yourself just a few years back. You can offer advice, compassion, explanation, forgiveness, or praise. Or you can simply recount (återberätta) an experience you had and how it impacted you and the person you are now. Try to see this younger self as a real and separate person when you write the letter. This exercise helps you think about your reader as a real person with emotions — a person who can be moved and inspired by your writing. Try not to overthink this exercise. Spend a few minutes deciding the core message (huvudbudskapet) of the letter, and then just start writing without filters.
