Traditions around Advent and Christmas in Sweden and around the World

During the period we will work interdisciplinary with the theme "Traditions about Advent and Christmas." We will sing traditional Advent and Christmas songs and hymns, paint and create the theme using a pop-up book, read some traditional fairy tales and some stories from the Bible, link the theme to the Jewish and Muslim traditions, write stories, and count and use number sense using the theme.

What we will learn:

• We discuss Advent, the meaning, and why we celebrate it. Also learn how Christians celebrate Advent
• We are watching movies about Christmas celebrations and traditions
• We read from the Bible and other stories about Christmas traditions
• We sing Christmas songs and look at the school's lucia performance
• We paint and create traditional Swedish Christmas and Advent themes using a pop-up book  
• We tell and write stories about Swedish Christmas traditions 
• We count using the Christmas theme

How we will be assessed:

You will  be assessed on:

• that you are interested and listen during the lessons
• that you can tell why Christmas is celebrated in Christianity
• that you know something about celebrating Christmas in Muslim countries
• that you can tell about some of the most common Swedish traditions around Christmas using your pop-up book
• that you know what advent means and its meaning using your pop-up book
• that you try to create a narrative text about your own Christmas - imagination or reality

• Matematisk formulering av frågeställningar utifrån enkla vardagliga situationer.
• Sång och spel i olika former: unison sång, kanon och växelsång samt ensemblespel.
• Kristendomens roll i skolan och på hemorten förr i tiden.
• Religioner och platser för religionsutövning i närområdet.
• Några högtider, symboler och berättelser inom kristendom, islam och judendom. Några berättelser ur Bibeln och deras innebörd samt några av de vanligaste psalmerna.
