Bully, week 4-9

During these weeks we will work with a movie called Bully. We will practice your ability to understand when you listen, but also how you speak and write about the movie in English.

Material: 

* Ipad

You will gain (få) knowledge (kunskap) by:

* Instructions here at Unikum so you know what to do

* Watch movie "Bully"

* Do exercises in the classroom related to speaking

* Prepare own individual presentation

* Write a summary of the movie

* Work with response list - own text

* Give each other response 

Schedule: 

Week 4 Introduction and start to watch Bully

Week 5 Continue to watch Bully + start with individual presentation

Week 6 Finish individual presentation (Thursday at Showbie) + start with writing exercise

Week 8 Continue with writing exercise

Week 9 Finish writing exercise and work with response list + hand in writing exercise (Thursday at Unikum) 

WHAT are you going to do?
Choose two of the points and prepare an oral presentation. The presentation should be at
least 2 minutes long.

HOW are you going to do it?
Use examples from the movie and examples from real life. Take notes and prepare what you are going to say. Be specific/detailed when you talk and explain your thoughts
(Ex: I get very mad when I watch the movie because it feels like the pricipal doesn't do anything about it and is blaming the wrong people, for example she doesn't listen to the kid who doesn't want to shake hands with the person who......... )

WHEN will you do it?
Use the lessons to prepare yourself. Record if you have time, otherwise you record at home and hand in at Showbie.

HOW do you start?
Read the question that you chose and then start present your discussion/answer.

A few useful phrases you might want to use in your presentation:

Points to discuss:

* Who do you think is responsible for bullying at school? Compare how parents, teachers and students can act to prevent bullying. In what way did some of the teachers in the movie make mistakes?

* As a classmate, what can you do when you notice someone being bullied? Please explain and feel free to use examples from the movie.

* How is bullying prevented at you school? Do you think your school has a good way of preventing bullying or are there other ways that you think could work better? Be careful not to mention specific people in your examples.

* Many children and teenagers spend a lot of time on different websites for social media (facebook, instagram for example), where do you draw the line for bullying on the internet? Who is responsible here?

Writing exercise - Bully

Writing exercise: Summary of Bully * Present the movie and what kind of genre it is. * What is the movie about? * Who are the main characters? Are they good/bad and why? Do they change during the movie and in that case how? * Are there other important characters? Are they good/bad and why? * How did the movie makes you feel (sad, happy, excited etc.)? Explain thoroughly (ingående,grundligt) your thoughts * Try to find similarities and differences between the school situation in the United States and Sweden. You also describe if this could happen in Sweden? Why/why not? * Did you like the movie? Why/why not? On a scale 1-10, what grade do you give the movie and why? Would you recommend the movie? Why/Why not? * Did you like the ending of the movie? Why/why not? Write in a continuous (fortlöpande) text, at least 1 page. Hand in at Unikum. If you need more time than the lessons in school, you have to work at home. Before you hand in you will work the response list! Good Luck😊 Response list: * Correct vocabulary in the sentence (she’s/her, witch/which, for/because, then/when) * Grammar mistakes (is/are, was/were, have/has, wordorder, verb tenses) * Spelling mistakes (whit = with, to/too, your/you’re, its/it’s, meat/meet) * Spoken and written language (gonna-going to, wanna-want to, kinda-kind of, you-u) * Then make sure you have; a capital (stor) letter in the beginning of every sentence and capital letter on I in a sentence. dot (punkt) in the end of every sentence no really long sentences. Use dots and commas. * If you use abbreviations (förkortningar) (it’s, wasn’t etc., make sure you put the apostrophe in the right place (not its). If you are unsure about how to use abbreviations, just write it is, was not etc. * Look for variation in your text How to begin a sentence (not too many I, he, she) You mustn’t begin a sentence with and, but, because etc. (these are linking words). Use a variation of difficult words and expressions. * Look for correct preposition words, i.e. angry with (not at), look at (not on). OBS! Before you hand in your text you let at least (minst) one person read your text!
