Matilda, the title character of Roald Dahl's book Matilda, is a young girl whose parents are mean to her and often ignore her. Matilda teaches herself how to read by the age of four which means that she is very smart and has a great ability to learn. Matilda's parents only value things like money and television, and they treat her poorly because she is different. To punish them, she plays little tricks on them.
