Your summer holiday has now passed and it’s time to make a new effort in school. Have you heard of the word summertalker (sommarpratarna)? If not, you will know the meaning of the word after this project. You have been chosen to be the school’s summer talker. You will plan and record a short program where you are the main character. The length of your talk should be approximately 5 minutes. The main goal is to capture the listeners’ interest – to entertain. You will tell your story in the Swedish Radio programme Sommar i P1 (Summer in Channel 1).

We will listen to Felix PewDiePie Kjellberg. We will get under the skin of the world’s biggest YouTube star, PewDiePie or Felix Kjellberg, as he’s actually called. We will listen to his story about his success, what his next step is and so on.

This is what we will do
· Listen to and discuss PewDiePie’s summer talk
· Write a script
· Read your script several times and try to improve your text, pay attention to grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
· Prepare a presentation
· Give and receive feedback
· Record your presentation by using an application “Opinion” or by downloading Simple Audio Recorder or Simple Audio Voice Sound Recorder
· Present it to your class
What should be included in your script?
· An introduction
· A content
· A conclusion
The content has to include two songs, 20 seconds each. At the end of this project you will have to be prepared give reasons for why you have chosen these particular songs.
· Try to use as many “linking words” as you can. You will receive a list a several linking words. However, do not overuse them. Linking words will help you structure the text as well as adding to the formality.
· Try to vary your language, do not use the same word over and over and over and over and over.
Topics you can talk about
· Something you love for example a sport, a piece of music
· A person that has affected your life somehow
· A happy memory
· What you dream about
· A sad memory
· A special trip
· Some memory from your childhood
· Something ironic or embarrassing that has happened to you
· Something that makes you happy
· Something that makes you sad
Plan or schedule
You will have
· two lessons to write the script.
· one lesson to give and receive feedback
· one lesson to process and work through everything you have written.
· one lesson to record your presentation.
Discuss PewDiePie’s summer talk in small groups
1. What is PewDiePie famous for?
2. What is PewDiePie most proud of? How come?
3. What does he mean by the expression ”if you want something – grab it!”?
4. He says ”success always comes with a cost”? Explain what he means.
5. “I am humble in front of my fans”. What does he mean by that? Why do you think he feels that way?
6. In some ways you can say that PewDiePie is a role-model for young people. How come? Do you think he is a good/bad role-model? State your opinion.
7. Make a summary of PewDiePie’s summer talk. Length approximately 400 words.
