Ender’s Game 
You have read the first two chapters of Ender’s Game. During this class you are to have discussions on the two chapters. The questions below should be answered in a discussion protocol. After the discussions, the group must hand in their discussion protocol where both the answers as well as other topics that may have been discussed is presented.

Chapter 1 and 2 Questions to discuss in groups:
What happened in the first two chapters? Talk the chapters through so that you all agree on what you have read so far. Provide a short summary in writing.

When discussing literature, we want to apply a wider perspective than just talking about the actual events in the story. In almost every book there is an underlying story, or message. Often this is referred to as the theme of the book. What themes are presented in the first chapter?

When analyzing literature it is common to talk about how the main characters are presented and to give descriptions of them. Which characters are presented so far in the book? How would you describe them? Their looks? Their behavior? 

Another aspect of discussing literature has to do with how the book affects you as a reader. What did you feel when you read these chapters? What part of the text affected you?

Yet another aspect of literary discussions is to discuss the narrative or the narration of the book. So I would like you to try to answer this question: Who is telling us the story so far? Present your “evidence” from the text by using quotes.

Similarities and intertextuality. Literature does not exist in vacuum, but are rather affected by things already written, stories already told. Does the character Ender remind you of any other character that you have read och seen? Discuss and describe!

Book seminar 1 Ender's game Chapter 1-2

Ender’s Game Chapter 3-6
Assignment:
In groups of 4 you start by giving a short review of the book so far. What has happened in it? Which characters have been presented and what have we learnt about them? Make a short summary together in a shared document.
Last time we were talking about the themes found in chapter 1 and 2, do the themes that you talked about last class still stand strong? 
Now; have a discussion based upon these questions. Write down the main points from the discussion in a shared discussion protocol (that is supposed to be handed in after class).

Chapter 3
What did we learn about Ender’s sister and more specifically her relation with Ender?
What do we know about Ender’s parents so far? What kind of parents are they? 

Chapter 4
In this chapter Ender becomes an outcast in this new group of recruits that he is in. How does that happen and why do you think it happens?
Describe Ender’s character so far. What kind of person does he seem to be? Did your opinion change during your reading?

Chapter 5
In this chapter Ender starts making friends. How does he go about that? 
How would you describe the social situation that Ender is in? If you were to compare it to other situations, does it seem as a social situation that people find themselves in for real? 

Chapter 6
Discuss and describe Ender’s role to the rest of the world as you see it Wien having read this far. Why is Ender so important?
What is the Free Game? And how does Ender feel about that game?

Same procedure as during the last seminar, you are supposed to start your discussion with a short summary of what has happened in the book so far. Make short notes that all of you have access to, in a shared document for example.
When that is done; continue with a discussion about these questions. Don’t forget to take notes and hand in the discussion protocol at the end of class.
Chapter 7 
What are the major events in this chapter, and what part do they play for the rest of the story? 
Describe the relationship between Ender and Alai. 
Chapter 8 
Who is Dink? Describe the character and tell us what you see.
When reading between the lines in this chapter; what would you say that it is about and how do you back up your arguments with quotes from the book.
Chapter 9
Who are Locke and Demosthenes in this chapter?
Who were they really? First, try to find information regarding who they were and what they are famous for. Then continue by discussing how this knowledge affects your understanding of this chapter.
