English Grammar (Sentences - Independent and Dependent Clauses, Run on, Fragments, Subject-Verb Agreement) for åk 6-9.
Arbetsområde:
During the coming weeks we are going to be working with grammar. Specifically we are going to work with the basic sentence structure and build up to write complex sentences. Some parts of this unit are a review, but we will explore the area in more depth which will serve to improve your communication both orally and written.

Sentence Structure
- Identify a fragment.
- Identify a complete sentence.
- What makes a complete sentence?
- What is the structure of a sentence?
- What is a run on sentence?
- Subject and predicate
- FANBOYS - conjunctions - for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
- Change a fragment into a complete sentence.
- Correct a run on sentence.
Complex sentences
- What is a dependent clause
- What is an independent clause
- Write a complex sentence using dependent and independent clauses.
Subject / Verb Agreement
- Does the subject and verb match?
- Define and identify a noun (oral and written)
- Know both plural and singular forms and rules for correct spelling
- Identify common and proper nouns and know why they belong in their respective categories
Bedömning:
Jag kommer bedöma din förmåga att:
Show you have an understanding of the above areas through class discussions and a test at the end of the unit that consists of multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions.
Show that during class you can identify the different parts of a sentence and use them correctly to create variety in your sentences.
You must be able to explain your answers. For example, if a phrase is a dependent clause, you must be able to state why is it is dependaent and what you can do make it a complete sentence.
