Life Today

Being able to express your opinions clearly and effectively is an important part of communication. The aim of this unit is to give you the chance to develop your discussion skills by expressing your views on a range of topics and arguing for your opinions.

Teaching Content
We will work on:

• Discussing many different topics both as a class and in small groups

• Developing language that can be useful when expressing/explaining yourself

• Using techniques to promote group communication

What are we going to do?
You will have time in the classroom to to speak English in a number of different situations. We will do exercises that involve the whole class as well as small group exercises. 

After some practice in class, I will put you in  pairs to discuss a number of specific questions. There are no “right” answers to the questions. It is a matter of trying to express yourself as well as possible in order to get your views across. The unit will end with a speaking test. The test questions will be posted here before the test .

When you do the test, each pair will record the discussion using Screencastify. Use the videocam when you record. Your group should speak for 5-10 minutes. Choose the slides you want to talk about beforehand - you will probably not have time to talk about all of them.
