Life of Pi, week 46-3

In this theme you will watch the movie Life of Pi and work with a writing as well as a speaking assignment.

• watch Life of Pi with subtitle in English 
• listen and understand, but also remember details
• develop your language when writing in English
• be able to have a conversation in English based on other students opinions 

Schedule: 

Week 46 -     Watch the movie Life of Pi

Week 47 -     Finish the movie and start with the writing assignment

Week 48-49- Work with the writing assignment 

Week 50 -     Hand in writing assignment (Monday), prepare speaking exercise (write down key words) 

Week 51 -     Prepare speaking exercise (Monday), No lesson (Tuesday)

Week 2   -     Prepare speaking exercise (Tuesday) 

Week 3   -     Speaking exercise (Monday) + reading exercise 

Week 4   -     New theme 

Response list:

Correct vocabulary in the sentence (she’s/her, meat/meet, how/who, witch/which, there/their etc.)

Grammar mistakes (is/are, was/were, have/has, wordorder, verb tenses)

Spelling mistakes (whit = with, to/too, your/you’re, its/it’s, meat/meet

Spoken and written language (gonna-going to, wanna-want to, you-u)

* Then make sure you have;
a capital (stor) letter in the beginning of every sentence and capital letter on I in a sentence.
dot (punkt) in the end of every sentence
no really long sentences. Use dots and commas.

* If you use abbreviations (förkortningar) (it’s, wasn’t etc., make sure you put the apostrophe in the right place (not its).
If you are unsure about how to use abbreviations, just write it is, was not etc.

* Look for variation in your text
How to begin a sentence (not too many I, he, she) 
You mustn’t begin a sentence with and, but etc. (these are linking words). 
Use a variation of difficult words and expressions. 
* Look for correct preposition words, i.e. angry with (not at), look at (not on).

OBS! Before you hand in your text you let at least (minst) one person read your text!

The movie "Life of Pi" is very complex and has a lot of questions to deal with. Take your time and don't rush through the assignment. Look at the questions and pick a few (or all, depending on how throughly you would like to work with them). There might now always be "one correct answer" to a question. Instead we want you to both describe, explain and motivate your thoughts and opinions as throughly as you can. Don't forget to bring different perspectives into your discussion and follow up with many questions. * Is faith necessary today when we are surrounded by science (Appa says: In 20 years science has come further than religion has done in 20 000 years)? * In what way is his belief an advantage/disadvantage? * Which of the versions that Pi tells is true? * Which version is the most believable? * What or who decide which version is true? * How strong is the willingness to survive? Use examples from the movie which support your opinions. * What did you think about the movie and why?
