Critters and Creatures

During our work with "Critters and Creatures" you will meet different mammals. We will practise a lot of useful phrases and new vocabulary. For example phrases to apologize, words for body parts, on both humans and animals, and even a few bird species. There are so many species on Earth. Do you know what animal it is in the picture on this plan? In addition, as homework, you will keep following Holly´s adventures Down Under. EMUsing, isn't it.

What you should practise and learn:

• reading and listening different types of texts about animals 
• talking about animals 
• how to use phrases to express your ideas, ask for help and to apologize
• possessive pronouns and the verb to be (present tense)
• new vocabulary from the texts, body parts
• watch Holly's Heroes to practise listening to English from Down Under to learn some Australian English. 
• write a a journal from an animal perspective, a description of an animal in 100 words, a summary of a text and a funny animal poem.
• to take part in a roleplay where you describe an animal that you want and convince your family why they should get it and also play the part of a family member that gives reasons to why getting that pet is a bad idea for you.

Productive skills

Speech: During English lessons we practice speaking English. Sometimes you will have prepared presentations or talks on your own, in pairs or groups that will be examined, but most of the time we do a lot of small exercises in class where we work to improve your speaking skills.During "Creatures and Critters" the roleplay will be an examination of speech  

Writing: The quality of your writing is what I look at when I read all the texts that you have written. Most of the time the feedback is intended to help you improve your writing. 

Comprehensive skills

Reading and Listening: Most weeks we work with a text, written or/and spoken. When I see you working with the texts,for example when you translate, answer questions, write about it or discuss it I can see how well you understand written and spoken English. The feedback you will have is intended to help you to learn more.  I will test your understanding by giving you comprehension tests. They will be unprepared tests, that you do not study especially for and there will only be a few each term.
