Assignment: My favourite musician

 

Part I

 

Your assignment is to find an interview with your favourite musician/artist on Youtube. If you can’t decide - pick the last artist you played on Spotify or Youtube.

 

The clip should be about 5 to 10 minutes long - it is okay to choose a longer video but then only listen for max 10 minutes. Your assignment is to write a recap about what is brought up in the interview. That is, tell me what they talk about.

 

For example:

 

• What type of questions do they ask?

• What do we learn about your favourite celebrity in this interview? Name a few things!

• Try to be specific about what topics are talked about

 

Part II

 

Your assignment is to find a written interview with your favourite musician/artist. Your assignment is to write a summary about what is brought up in the interview. That is, tell me what they talk about.

 

Use the same example questions as above.

 

After you have done this, make a comparison between the two. Do they give the same picture of the artist/musician? Why/why not?

Part III - The lyrics

 

What kind of lyrics does your favorite artist/band have? In this part you pick the lyrics for a song of a band or artist and work individually (by yourself). The lyrics have to be in English. I want you to answer these questions:

 

• What are the lyrics about?

• Has the song got a message?

• Is there a specific theme to the lyrics? As in, if you were to summarize them into one word - it could for example be “love” or “loss”

• What is your reaction to the song?

• Do you remember the first time you heard it?

• Most of the music we listen to in Sweden have English language lyrics, why do you think it is like that? Compare to how it is in other countries. Discuss!*

 

*Extra important question.

 

Present this to the class by speaking or record it in class/at home and send it to me. Minimum requirement is to speak for 3 minutes but no longer than 5. You should also have some form of presentation to show (Google Presentation/Prezi) as well as play a part of the song (not included in the total time).

We will have 4 hours in class to prepare for the presentation. You need to have chosen your artist + song by the end of the 1st hour. If not - pick the last song you played on Spotify that has lyrics.
