English Culture Presentation - åk 8

Have you ever heard of Route 66, the Uluru or Haggis? Now you will get the chance to learn more about English culture and what defines different type of English speaking countries.

1. Purpose

The purpose and aim of this assignment is that you as pupils will get an insight in different culture aspects of countries that speak English. By learning of the history and cultural aspects of the country it will be easier to understand that country and also compare it to Sweden and our culture. The purpose is also to learn how to structure and prepare a presentation by using Powerpoint on your computers. 

2. What are we going to do?

Below you find different aspects of culture from different English speaking countries. Your job is to find information about these aspects and present them. You will present them orally as a presentation and you will either record it on your computer or present it in front of the class.

The length of this project will be two weeks to prepare your presentation, by gathering information and structure your powerpoint. You should also write a mindmap with keywords that will be your help to present your content. There will be a lesson where you will record your video.

 

  • Choose Two that you explain very briefly, in about 30 seconds each.
  • Choose One that you explain more thoroughly, in about 1-2 minutes
  • Choose One that you explain well, in about 2-3 minutes

 

You must make sure you explain things from different countries. Remember to compare the English cultural aspects to Sweden. You are also suppose to justify your sources and explain why they are trustworthy. If you want to you can pick a own cultural aspect from one of these countries, but ask your teacher first.

3. What will you be looking at when you grade me?

Most important thing is how you as a student variate your language. To use different ways of expressing yourself show me that you are on a higher level when it comes to speaking English. Things to think about is for example, what kind of words am I using? How do I begin my sentences? How long or short are they? 

 

Other aspects that are important are the tempo in which you are talking. Find a good balance with not to fast and no to slow. Pronounciation and grammar, as well as the content of your presentation. Try to make the presentation interesting, think about how you begin your presenation. The structure is also important to make the listener understand what you are talking about and in which order it comes.
