Charlie, the fifteen-year-old narrator of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, has just entered his freshman year of high school when the book begins. He is quiet and withdrawn, but he is also extremely observant and thoughtful, always paying close attention to everything going on around him, even if he is only a silent witness. Charlie writes the entire book as a series of letters to an anonymous “friend.”
* In this reading unit you will read "The Perks of being a Wallflower" and participate in books talks and keep a reading journal.
The aim of this unit is to further develop you reading, writing and speaking skills.
Assessment
The assessment at the end of this unit will be based on:
Two written assignments - The anticipation guide/paper and the final written assignment
Your reading skills and your active participation in the regular book talks
Your reading journal that is to be handed in on a regular basis
